How is everyone doing on the challenge? It is day 5 today! Have you been juicing? This week I have had mostly grapefruit and orange (my favourite!) and to cleanse my bowels I have been juicing beetroot, carrot, celery and ginger.
Included in the challenge cleanse is information about the benefits of juicing:
Fruit and vegetable juices are good sources of the traditional nutrients;
-Citrus fruits (grapefruit, oranges, etc.) provide healthy portions of vitamin C. -Carrot juice contains large quantities of vitamin A, in the form of beta carotene. -A number of green juices are a good source of vitamin E. -Fruit juices are a good source of essential minerals like iron, copper, potassium, sodium, iodine, and magnesium, which are bound by the plant in a form that is most easily assimilated during digestion.
The juice requires hardly any digestion, so all its nutritional goodness gets rapidly into your system.
Your digestion system gets a break so you are left with additional energy!
Since juicing removes the indigestible fiber, these nutrients are available to the body in much larger quantities than if the piece of fruit or vegetable was eaten whole. For example, because many of the nutrients are trapped in the fiber, when you eat a raw carrot, you are only able to assimilate about 1% of the available beta carotene. When a carrot is juiced, removing the fiber, nearly 100% of the beta carotene can be assimilated.
Fruits and vegetables provide one more substance that is absolutely essential for good health - water. More than 65% of most of the cells in the human body are made of water, and in some tissues, for example the brain, the cells can be made up of as much as 80% water. Water is absolutely essential for good health, yet most people don't consume enough water each day. Plus, many of the fluids we do drink, coffee, tea, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages and artificially flavored drinks each contain substances that require extra water for your body to eliminate. Fruit and vegetable juices are free of these unneeded substances and are full of pure, clean water.
There are an unlimited amount of juice recipes, and you can create your own using fruits and vegetables. Here are some to get you started: (to serve 1)
·Orange, Grapefruit & Strawberry – 2 oranges, 1 grapefruit. Then in a blender/food processor, blend a handful of strawberries
·Beetroot (beet), Carrot, Celery & Ginger – ½ a beet, 3 carrots, 3 celery stalks, a small chunk of ginger. Add an apple if you find it easier to drink it sweet. Add garlic if you are game! This is a bowel cleanse!
·Green Apple, Cucumber & Ginger – A gallballder cleanse! 2 green apples, 1 cucumber and a small chunk of ginger.
·Apple, Carrot & Ginger – 2 apples, 3 carrots and a small chunk of ginger.
·Green Juice – Make it up using spinach, lettuce, kale, cucumber, parsley, and add a clove of garlic, fruit like an apple to make it sweet if you wish.
·Berries – Strawberries, Blueberries and Raspberries – a handful or more of each!
What you need: A Juicer!
The best kind of juicers are the ‘slow’ juicer. Slow juicer is a next generation juicer that preserves more vitamins and antioxidants using Hurom's patented Low Speed Type Screw(LSTS) technology. Check out www.slowjuicer.com and for other affordable juicers go to www.discountjuicers.com

One of the participants Lauri wanted to share a tip for you, especially those of you who work full time jobs like her..
"I had already mixed up a juice concoction of beet, ginger, ceasar lettuce, carrots, wheat-grass (which I grow) and celery - YUM. However, in doing more research I found that it's best to drink the juice right away - which is not possible for me. I work a full-time job and pulling out the juicer AND cleaning it every morning is impossible. I found a blog that says you can freeze it to keep the enzymes which I ended up doing. (http://www.choosingraw.com/question-of-the-week-can-i-make-juice-the-night-before/). I made a batch for the week. I would imagine a lot of people are in the same position of having to work full time but wanting to try the challenge so maybe some info. geared toward those of us who have to prepare for the week on Sunday would be great."
What did you guys eat on your first day? (Feel free to email me! firstname.lastname@example.org)
I had: -A grapefruit and orange juice -An avocado -5 nectarines -A salad -Another nectarine -Peanut butter and chocolate balls
I have been eating lots of chocolate balls lately, and they seem to have me instead of me having them, so today I set out with the intention to be chocolate free and broke that word, ended up having them at night. So each day I am going to set out an intention to only eat foods that provide me with sustainability to support my physical existence! I have been living the earth diet lifestyle for 353 days and am still growing and learning new things!
Chat soon guys! Liana :)

So it is Sunday night for me - tomorrow I start the 21 day Earth diet challenge with you all :) For some of you it is Monday - and you have already started! wooohooo!
If you have any questions at all please email me at email@example.com - no questions are stupid questions ok!
I wanted to share some questions I had from a extraordinary participant here in the USA, here are my answers in case you guys had similar thoughts...
Can I eat Quinoa? 1. Quinoa is great! I did not include that in any recipe from day 1-9 - but there will be some between day 9 - 21. If you can on the 9 days eat it raw - as when it is cooked it is depleted of lots of it's nutritional value and just becomes a filler for the body. Can you recommend some great quinoa recipes? Let me know if you would like to share them with the rest of the participants on this Earth diet challenge :)
Can I have almond milk? 2. Yes almond milk is great. Do you make your own or purchase it from a store? When ever you can in the next 9 days make your foods from scratch. Here is a link for a great raw recipe. And make sure any almond milk you buy has NO SOY LECITHIN. Poison.
Can I have tea? 3. Green tea, rooibos tea and yerba matte are great too! Also this week, if you are drinking tea make sure it is the whole leafs and not tea bags. Tea Bag tea is like the fast food of teas! Herbs& plants like mint, green tea, lemon myrtle, ginger, dandelion and lemongrass make great cleansing teas and are quite assessable.
Can I have coffee? 4. Coffee is not out on the earth diet. Coffee beans come from the earth naturally. Like the cacao bean (chocolate bean) however it can be addictive and become a drug - so if you usually have coffee everyday - go without for 9 days. Allow your body to clean it's self out of familiar comfortable tastes.
Hey I just thought of something - if you ever lose this link or you are out somewhere and don't have the link but want to access this page - I created a link - it is at the very bottom of the "Home" page on this website. You will see a letter m - at the bottom page on the right side above the butterfly, lick on that and it will bring you to here :)
