The farm is going well thankyou... lots of work still to be done but my mum and I started planning our herb garden last weekend so now we just have to figure out were our veggie patch is going :) I should probably fill you in with my progress with my degestive system (sounds exciting I know haha) but I have actually stopped eating meat and I have found that all my bloating and pain has reduced dramatically since doing it :). I had stopped eating red meat a long time beforehand but was still mainly eating chicken with a bit of fish but I decided to go a couple of days without any meat and when I ate chicken again I was in agony... I just think my stomach finds meat really hard to digest! So that has been positive :)

Ahh, where to begin? For a long time, I've struggled to find a dietary alternative to the consumerism trend of fast "food", processed products, and chemical laden junk. I have health issues of my own that are exacerbated by these things, and at least one of my children is sensitive to them as well. In my quest to find foods that were both conducive to our health, and congruous with my personal belief system, we stumbled many times. We tried to eliminate red dye and refined sugar. We tried gluten free and casein free. We were long advocates of soy, yet the rise of GMOs and other such issues filled me with guilt towards the end and that too was abandoned. The closest we ever came to something that worked for us, physically and ethically, was a slightly modified Paleolithic diet. It worked for us, but still didn't feel quite right.
Night after night of research, book after book of information. It got to where my head hurt just thinking about it. There were bits and pieces of each method that appealed to me. There were bits and pieces of each method that just made no sense at all. I struggled to find something that blended the best of all of them, discarding the rest. With no formal training in nutrition, I was at a complete loss. I knew what I wanted, and I knew what I didn't want. I just didn't know how to merge it into a complete dietary lifestyle.
Until one day, I came across the EARTH DIET. When I first found it, it was simply a stub on wikipedia. That was all it took. It was simple, basic, easy to follow, all-encompassing... AND it allowed for personal adaptation. We could work it into our lifestyle as we saw fit. It was, essentially, exactly what I'd been hunting for. I was instantly drawn to it. Further research, more reading. It all made sense to me now. Everything was exactly as I thought a diet should be. It was fun, filled with variety, allowed for personal preference, cost effective, covered all the basic human dietary needs, and it shared my pro-natural/anti-processed views. This was it! What I had been hunting for all along.
The Earth Diet is relatively simple in principle. The principle claims of the Earth Diet are:
And to that end, it met all of my requirements. It eliminated processed/artificial crap, incorporated fresh foods, promoted ethically responsible purchases and catered to more than just the physical well-being that most diets concerned themselves with. It was, for us at least, absolutely perfect. And so it began. Recipes were collected, meal plans devised. I have to admit, it was a lot of fun and the options were plentiful. Incorporating some of our favourite dietary practices (smoothies for breakfast, bento box lunches, fun fruit-based desserts and veggie-based snacks) became easier to do than with any previous diet, and the simple/natural approach felt fulfilling spiritually as well.
As time wears on, I will share pics and recipes, meal plans and more. I'll also touch base on supplements that we take and how we administer them (I won't lie, fish oil tastes nasty). Ultimately though, perhaps the best part of this diet is that there are no real "rules" beyond the basic principles. You eat what you like, you avoid what you don't. You do what works for you. You own it, you make it yours, you design it around YOUR particular needs/wants/desires. How awesome is that?

The date November 4, 2010 will forever be burnt into my memory. On that day I was diagnosed with testicular cancer at the age of 25. It came as a crushing blow. I had suspected it for several months at the time but was in denial. How could it possibly happen to me? I had been what I thought was healthy, weightlifting nearly every day and eating what I was told was the "proper diet".
The way the cancer had manifested into detection was because I had sustained an injury causing swelling in the testicle. I was put on anti-inflammatory medicine but the swelling never fully reduced. Several checkups and tests later I was diagnosed with testicular cancer. The next day I was in the operating room and the tumor was removed. After the surgery they began watching the tumor markers in my blood. About a month and a half later my doctor told me that the tumor markers weren’t going down nearly fast enough and that “It was no longer a matter of if I needed chemo therapy, it was a matter of how much.” Another moment I won’t forget. They went on to tell me of all the side effects associated with the chemo therapy. The ones standing out in my mind are possible nerve damage in my fingers, a much higher chance of getting another kind of cancer that I never had before, and a high chance of going sterile. My choices were three one week sessions each one month apart, or four one week sessions each one month apart. In other words, do I want to be poisoned fast and possibly have stronger adverse side effects, or poisoned slower in hopes of reducing the damages of chemo therapy. Given those options I told them no, absolutely not. I would take my chances and believe in my body’s, and my own, will to live.
Not knowing what to do and being severely depressed about the whole situation, I was prepared to do nothing. Until one day, my father and I were looking for a documentary to watch on Netflix and we stumbled upon one called Food Matters. I thought to myself “Yes, food does matter.” In that documentary we were introduced to something called the Gerson Therapy, developed by Dr. Max Gerson and continued today by his daughter Charlotte Gerson. Max Gerson had been healing people of cancer, and other diseases, since the 1940’s and there have been countless cases since then of people being healed and completely cured who were much worse than I. Not a survival rate of five years and deemed “cured” even if they died in five years and one day. These people were not clinging to life, they were living life. That was something I could not ignore.
I dove into the Gerson Therapy and suddenly realized how big of a life change it was going to be. It consists of no meat whatsoever, no dairy, no sugar, no processed foods, all organic fruits and vegetables. It requires juicing every day, many times a day, eating hearty salads with flax seed oil and apple cider vinegar, two baked potatoes a day, and taking coffee enemas among other guidelines. It’s a tough transition, but when faced with the decision do you want to live happy and healthy, or wither slowly and die, the answer becomes clear.
The whole process had opened my eyes to just how sick I had become on the typical American diet. How basically everything I had been taught about nutrition and the proper, essential foods was either flat out wrong or grossly misleading. Starting off on the Gerson Therapy, which is extreme because it heals people who are seriously ill and dying, and branching out into other similar dietary paths has shown me how to truly eat for health. My diet before I developed cancer had consisted of mostly meat, beef and chicken, followed by a lot of dairy, milk and cheese, and sugar with other processed foods to fill in the gaps. Fruits and vegetables were nowhere to be found. Since I was weightlifting so much I wanted to flood my body with as much protein and possible, and I was always taught animal protein is the only way to become stronger. I’d have at least a burger a day, a steak a week, hotdogs as snacks, chicken cutlets and chicken nuggets whenever I could, at least a glass of milk a day, and lots of different cheeses. All of which contribute to the growth of cancer.
Knowing what I know now there is no doubt that I was a prime candidate to develop cancer, it was inevitable. Everything I thought I was doing to stay healthy and strong was leading me to a path of sickness. I had everything reversed. Your body doesn’t need animal protein; it doesn’t need meat, milk, or cheese. If you eat the proper fruits and vegetables, nuts and berries, juice every day, you will become healthy and you will become stronger. I still weight lift nearly every day and recover from my workouts faster than I ever had before. I’m also happy to say that on a raw plant based diet I was able to completely rid myself of cancer and have taken blood tests to confirm that fact.
Taking your diet from what’s grown in the EARTH, eating what nature had intended us to eat, removing processed foods and unnatural dead food is the only way to be truly healthy. After I made the transition into a healthy state of mind, and a healthy way of eating, I couldn’t think of ever going back to the way I was before. I feel happier, healthier, I have much more energy, and even my skin looks and feels better. The food I eat now is alive, fresh organic fruits and vegetables, it gives me life and will give life to anyone who dares to take a chance and eat the food that our earth provides for us all.

Hi Liana & friends, I'm hoping you can help me with this, the doctors say there is nothing they can do :-(
Six weeks ago I developed a skin condition under my arm. I tired treating it with tea tree oil, keeping it clean with coconut oil but it wasn't going away. It actually spread and I have patches all over my torso. Doctors say it is pityriasis rosea and there is no cure. I guess nobody even really knows what causes it but they think it's a virus and it may not go away for another six weeks or even six months. It's turning into summer here now and I'm all covered up so nobody will see. Please I am open to any ideas you have!!

Ok firstly EVERYTHING IS CURABLE... doctors are limited these days to what they know and can treat because what they are learning is so old school and buy the book; to sell medicines. so thats good news for you!!! Have you heard of Dr Coldwell? He is the LEADING doctor in the world for curing people naturally with dis-ease and cancer and i am great friends with him :) I spoke to him yesterday about you... He said take VITAMIN C, ZINC and H202. You can get zinc capsules from chemist/drug store... quite powerful... and with the vitamin c if you can get high doses through a drip, some alternative places do this and takes like 2 hours. Also ONLY eat from the earth completely and fully to make sure your body is getting loaded with nutrients and NOURISHMENT! We will so get rid of this Cate FOREVER!!!!!! Love Liana

My skin is completely clear now – at its worst, both armpits and my entire abdomen were covered in lesions. This seemed so hopeless and I was really struggling with despair more than any physical symptoms. I cleaned the entire affected area twice a day with hydrogen peroxide and then put a thin layer of zinc on over it. I was also taking zinc supplements. There’s no oranges grown here in Minnesota so a colleague in California picked 2 dozen oranges from his person grove and sent them via overnight parcel to me. So I ate 3 oranges a day for fresh Vitamin C (I avoid supplements if I can). It was completely gone by 16 May so 8 days total. And doctors told me it was not possible and then that it would be 12 weeks to 6 months!
This really means the world to me. I go every summer to this waterfall and the thought of not being able to get in the water until September or October was devastating. The doctors had me convinced that I’d be covered up in turtlenecks all summer to hide this horrible condition.
Thank you again Liana!! You and Dr Coldwell are the reason I will be spending my summer outside with my daughter loving life instead of hiding! Love, Cate
I thought it would be beneficial to share where I used to be before I began my 30 Day juicing journey. I remember how important it is to remember where I came from to then know where I am going. In December 2011, I spent the holiday in Puerto Rico, with a dear friend of mine. I was thrilled at the thought of ringing in the year 2012 with her and her family but the one thing I could not shake was that I was in a beautiful paradise but I was unhappy and unhealthy! I thought to myself "You could start fresh this year" but I knew if I was going to be happy and make a change I had to put my health as a priority. Leading up to the New Year celebration I literally had a breakdown. I couldn't pinpoint the reason at the time but I was terribly unhappy with myself.... something HAD to be done. Steven Robalino, who had always been a good friend to me, never shoved the idea of juicing down my throat but I actually had to make that extra step closer to him in order to see my solution was in juicing. I learned that, with a little help from my friend ;) I am able to achieve exactly the kind of success that would change this year into the best one YET! I am proud of myself and my achievements but also and so proud to have Steven as my friend, supporter, mentor, and health "guru" =) I am who I am supposed to be today... and it doesn't stop here. My life is forever changed and I can ONLY improve from here on out.... Thanks for everything Steve!!

In 3 months...
This is my story...
My starting weight in 2009 was 41kgs (90lbs). How did I get this small?
I was very depressed and sad with my life. I became sick and ill when I was with my ex boyfriend whom I cared for but was very hard and exhausting and all I did was worry about him and forgot about myself. I stopped eating....everything, and one day i looked in the mirror and saw a very scared, tired girl looking back at me. I later left him and started to get my life back. I had many people tell me "You need to eat" or "God your skinny" which made me very self conscious because I actually couldn't really see the full effect it had on me. I then began eating whatever I could to get back to my more normal 55kgs. I ate so much that I couldn't see how big I was getting. I ended up getting to 60kgs, you may say that's nothing but for me it felt huge as I have never been that big before and being a small framed girl it was hard accept, how could I go from being a size 4 to a size almost 10?
I started my journey by getting everything in my life right. I got a great job, I got back in contact with old friends and I decided I needed to do something about the weight I had put on so I joined a gym.
The next thing I did absolutely changed me and i am so grateful that I actually took the steps.
step 1) Buy new workout shoes
step 2) Buy new workout clothes
step 3) Start researching healthy clean foods and meals
I started getting personal training and really started getting into the gym. I was training about 6 times a week and 2 times with a trainer.
I started to tone up and loose a bit of fat and a few months later I was approached by a girl at the gym who had done sports model comps before and she said I had the body for it.
I doubted myself instantly and thought there's no way I could do that especially after my ex and having no confidence, BUT I jumped on the net and started my research once again.
I looked up what body builders/sports models ate and how they trained and It was easy, eat clean, solid healthy foods from the earth. No processed foods or artificial sugars.
Weeks later I decided I'm going to go ahead with this and give it a go and started my pre-comp diet of protein and veggies.
Everything I ate in that time made a world of difference,
My skin to my hair to everything.
Every meal I hate had protein so for example:
Meal 1: Oats with protein powder
Meal 2: Egg whites with honey
Meal 3: Protein shake, apple and almonds
Meal 4: Meat protein either chicken or fish with green veggies
Meal 5: Protein shake, apple and almonds
Meal 6: Meat protein either chicken or fish with green veggies BUT this is very strict and would not recommend doing this for long periods of time. We NEED carbohydrates to sustain a healthy balanced diet so please do not go off this for a long term fix.
Now my food consists of healthy wraps, salads, stir fry's and anything CLEAN. I try to avoid processed foods and foods that are full with sugar but a little bit every now and then doesn't hurt, especially if it is raw (then it doesn't have processed sugar) !!
My habits before I started clean eating were TERRIBLE. I would literally have a packet of chips, chocolate, ice cream and lollies everyday. My meals weren't too bad but it was the sugar cravings that got me. My body was so used to eating sugar and fatty foods that the more I ate the more I craved. It takes a while to break a habit and that's why it was, I need to end the cycle and going to the gym and seeing other fit people gave me that motivation and honestly when I got home from the gym the last thing I wanted was a candy bar or something that would ruin my workout. Everyone is different though and if you really want to loose weight the best advice I can give you and do something that will MAKE you go to the gym or MAKE you want to exercise. Whether it be joining a netball team to water aerobics or a yoga class. Anything is better then sitting on you bum bum. Do no be intimidated by people at the gym and girls DO NOT be scared of weights, learn to love them and get a trainer if you want to learn the right technique and sets/reps needed to build muscle and burn body fat. The term i use is TONE, toning up does no mean you will look like a man, it means you look healthy!
I have sooooo much energy since I started eating right, whereas before I would always need a sleep in the daytime. I thought this was due me having low iron because I do not eat red meat but it wasn't. My diet effected me in more ways then I could sit here and type about. My skin, my moods, my energy, my concentration, EVERYTHING gets affected when we do not feed our body the right foods. Our bodies were not made to process artificial ingredients so it makes us tired because were working overtime to break those nasties down.
My fav recipe is of course my chicken salad.
mixing in some chicken slices which i cooked in the oven in foil for about 20 mins little bit of olive oil and a sprinkle of crushed almonds I know it sounds boring but its fresh, healthy and i love it. (TED Chicken recipes here!)
I competed in my first fitness comp 2 weeks ago and I feel amazing, it has give me back my zest for life and I love training.
I love food and eating so much that I am now studying an Advanced Diploma of Nutritional Medicine.This journey took me about 9 months, but the real changes came when I was doing my intense dieting for 12 weeks. The best part about my transformation is that I now have so much information and can tell other people first hand how the process was and how great I feel. I will never go back to the way I was. Its an addiction now and I love being healthy. Becoming aware of what we eat is so important and you don't need a fad diet or crazy calorie counting to tell you how to eat, its simple......if it comes from the earth......its amazing and THE EARTH DIET is a perfect example of how to change your LIFESTYLE!
There is no greater feelings then the feeling of being alive and well because we take care of our selves.
Your number one so make a change and feed you body the fuel it needs to sustain a long and healthy life. I hope I have given you some insight into my journey, and if anything I hope a little motivation as well. No matter how big you are or how unmotivated EVERYONE can make the change for a healthy life....you just have to want it, no one can help you but YOU!! What next for me?......just wait and see :)

Nine questions with Marilynn Pridham
1. Why did you want to change?
I was always athletic and energetic growing up but as I got older I went through a period of lethargy and depression; I felt bloated often, mentally exhausted and just not myself. I could tell something was off so I became proactive about my health and nutrition, planning for the future. A nutritionist explained the body's pH balance to me and started me on a plan, I saw changes within the week; there was even a fluid buildup in my wrist that disappeared almost instantly. I began an exercise routine and watched my body begin to transform.
2. How long did it take/have you been on this path for?
I began making positive changes around 5 years ago but only started prioritizing muscle building 2 years ago. I stay in similar shape year round.
3. Best part of the transformation?
My attitude! I feel amazing, my outlook on life is incredible and I've never been happier! I believe anything is possible and see every moment as an opportunity and a miracle. Since the change so many positive things have come into my life.
4. What do you mostly eat and do now?
oatmeal, eggs, nuts, almond milk, avocado, berries, apples, greek yoghurt, spinach, asparagus, broccoli, chicken, salmon, natural pb, celery. I eat 5-6 meals a day and workout 5-6 days a week
5. The hardest part?
It took awhile but your tastes change and you start to crave the good foods not the bad. It's harder to prepare healthy meals than to take a shortcut and grab something quick with little to no nutrition. It takes determination and a lot of people don't understand why you're doing it, outside attitudes can be hard to deal with but everyone seems to understand now and its become easier.
6. What was your life like before??? Habits, parts that sucked etc Work, stress, bad eating, bad sleep, alcohol, depression, no goals
7. Your best results?
My body has transformed, I'm competing in fitness competitions, I've put on muscle and have more energy. My new attitude and strength has opened up opportunities for me and brought positive people into my life.
8. Say something about The Earth Diet and your idea of living a lifestyle that focuses on earths natural ingredients....
I believe we were meant to live a certain way and given the things we need to survive and since have distorted our reality so much that people are searching for meaning and purpose. I love the simplicity of the Earth Diet, it's the way we were meant to eat and if we could start from scratch we'd find everything has been created for us to give our bodies exactly what they need. The Earth and the human body are both so complex and so magnificent!
9. What is next for you?
Next I will be competing in the Ontario Physique Association and studying to write my personal training and nutrition exam. I plan to have a private training facility built to give special attention to women that need to revitalize their tired bodies and boost their self esteem. I can't wait to start helping change lives!

Dan Lacy's story...
The main reason I wanted to start a new type of nutritional lifestyle was actually pretty shallow, I wanted to look good to have more confidence when it came to dating. I also always am looking to be the best at what I do, and training to be physically fit has always been a huge part of my life. I had recently found an interest in physique competitions, because when I have a goal to work toward I can concentrate and commit 110% to it. Around the same time my roommate told me we were going to be having a visitor staying in our house for a few weeks, that visitor turned out to be Liana. When I learned of her background I became a lot more interested in how the natural diet works, mainly so I could attempt to have educated conversations. As I did my research I found that most professional bodybuilders advocate some type of organic lifestyle. The research also lead me to see that processed foods really are detrimental to the body and our health. The liver is the main fat burning organ in the body, so if it is using all of its energy to filter chemicals out it has no time to burn off excess fat.
So I decided to give The Earth Diet (TED) a try. The journey began early March of 2012 and I am writing this testimony early June 2012.
I went from eating candy bars and cereal to kale and sun warrior protein. The foods that filled my refrigerator and cabinets were along the lines of organic fruit, vegetables, fish, chicken, almond butter, sprouted grain bread, green tea, flax seeds, hemp seeds, brazil nuts, almonds, almond milk, cacao powder, wheat bran, TED almond butter cups (recipe here), and plenty of other organic whole foods. I started coming up with my own recipes. With the help of Liana, I made things like cold kale, parsley, cilantro, almond milk soup with fish, sounds odd but was surprisingly tasty. I also concocted things like organic chicken chili with beans, vegetables, fruit, and coffee. Along with many other TED recipes that were thrown my way. While I was changing to this new lifestyle I was also training for the physique competition in early June. I would be in the gym for hours at a time and never feel any less energetic. The only hard part of the new diet was adjusting to not being able to consume my favorite childhood snacks like candy bars and cereal. Although, these craving were easily satisfied by the TED almond butter cups.
By the day of my competition I had dropped from 215 pounds to 179 pounds, my bench press went from 335 pounds to 365 pounds,
my squat increased from 225 pounds to 275 pounds,
and my dead lift increased from 315 pounds to 365 pounds.
This just shows I was not even slightly malnourished during my training. I am overly satisfied with the TED lifestyle and will continue to follow it as best I can; I am of course only human. But I expect only to continue to see health and appearance improvements in the future. Hopefully it will keep me alive and complication free well into my elderly years.

Hey Liana, The earth diet helped me transform my life in so many ways! I was overweight and i lost 15 kilos on the earth diet, and my skin and all my school grades have improved HEAPS! I juiced my mum some beet and made her some raw chocolate peanut butter balls on mothers day, she couldn't believe that the chocolate she was eating was actually GOOD for you!I am definitely going to try and watch ALIVE here from Perth! I personally DISSOLVED 11 gallstones with a SUPER STRICT VEGAN DIET, although it took me 4 months, I never had to get operated. I had TWO MAJOR gallbladder attacks until I finally got the nerve to go to a homeopathic/naturopathic doctor who managed my problem with FOOD !!! Lost 40 pounds in the transition, but heyyyyyyyy, I needed to change my lifestyle !!! The good doc said to me: The Gallbladder is like a smoke alarm, if it is ringing, it means that the whole house will burn down if you do not attend to it. and in modern medicine, we just cut the smoke alarm out, instead of tending to the cause of the problem, hahahahaha

When i first stumbled onto your youtube video's i started watching them
and it created a change in me, a catalyst . I have suffered with an eating disorder (bingeing) amongst other emotional issues for a very long time. Watching yourself put me into action! I started eating earth diet style, stared counselling to deal with my issues. The change i feel is amazing, i haven't felt like this since i was a kid!! The way in which you are so honest and caring with the information you put out is what made me feel "safe" enough to change myself. So, that said, what i hope to get from your book (purchase here) is more of the same. Just more information on being a loving, caring person whom eats responsibly in this world for my own health, spirituality and that of the planet. I would love to see lot's of Vegan recipes! Hi everyone! Well, I started the Earth Diet on January 26th. For almost a month I ate only things provided by the earth and I did really great. But a few things happened, including the anxiety I felt before the final exams, that made me kind of screw this new lifestyle up :( I passed all the exams (I have to give two more this week), ...but on the other hand, I feel I´ve failed. I´ve been talking to my nutritionist (who was amazed when I told her about this idea two months ago) - And now I´m ready to start this all over again. You are what you eat. We have all heard this phrase so many times, chances are you no longer really think about what it really means, dismissing it with all the other catch phrases we hear on a daily basis.
The typical American diet is rich in processed packaged foods that are filled with preservatives and artificial colors. They have been all but depleted of nutrition.
They are convenient, inexpensive and pleasing to the pallet. The boxes, cans and bags are colorfully and eye-catchingly designed touting words like “natural”, “diet” and “healthy”, but is there any truth in advertising?
If we believe the boxes we should all be 100% healthy, in shape and vibrantly ready for life on a daily basis. The truth of what is really happening is that by eating these foods in lieu of fresh produce and healthier alternatives that come from nature, they are also making us, as a nation, overweight, ill, lethargic, depressed and less likely to live a long or healthy life. Are you willing to sacrifice your health and your quality of life for convenience? I’m not.
Grocery shopping has gone from a fun family experience where you could meander down the isles with your list, filling up your cart happily, knowing that you were doing something good for yourself and your family. Planning meals, cooking, and eating were a pleasure. That is the way it should be.
Unfortunately, with expansion of our farming and food industry, the government becoming much more involved, and greed and profit now playing a more primary factor than consideration for nutrition as well as health and safety, shopping has become a war game - and we as consumers have been placed on the defense.
Most of us were not raised eating organic foods. This is new and uncharted territory. We need a map. Labels are confusing – they also have been geared to straight out lie to us. We have been conditioned by the media to believe that the words “diet”, “light”, “natural”, “healthy” and so on mean it is good for you, which could not be further from the truth.
So what are you to do? Where is this magical map that makes this easy again?

Do you have to go raw or vegetarian to be healthy? Of course not. But incorporating into your daily eating habits as much organic fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds and clean non- fluoridated water as you can, it will benefit you tremendously.
If you choose to eat meat, buy grass fed organic, free-range antibiotic free eggs. Find RAW milk and raw milk cheese if you choose to eat dairy as the pasteurization process destroys almost all of the nutritional value.
If we want to take back our food supply, the only thing big industry cares about or understands is the bottom line. If we stop buying their chemically sprayed, genetically modified, antibiotic and hormone fed produce and meat, only then will they listen and only then will we have an impact.
I think Liana said it all with her title… The Earth Diet. If it didn’t come from the earth, your body wasn’t designed to digest it.
This is your choice, your body and your life. Take it back.
