The cleanest spots to eat in Brisbane, Australia (home of Olympics 2032)

Jun 13, 2023

Yes, that’s right, Brisbane will host the 2032 Olympics. Brisbane city is one of my favorite cities in Australia, home to my family and many friends. It has a special place in my heart. It's the capital of the state Queensland, and location wise it’s a portal to the Sunny Coast, Gold Coast, and Byron Bay. Since I’ve been spending more time in Brisbane lately I have been on the hunt for the cleanest most wholesome (and obviously delicious) places in and around the city. Here is what I’ve found! Save this for your visit, or share with your friends and family, especially if they are going to the Olympics.

My definition of a “clean restaurant” is in terms of an establishment that prioritizes the use of high-quality, wholesome, and unprocessed food items. It focuses on sourcing fresh produce, grass-fed or pasture meats, wild and sustainable seafood, and other ingredients that are free from artificial additives, preservatives, hormones, antibiotics, and pesticides. A clean ingredient restaurant may emphasize organic, locally sourced, or responsibly grown ingredients to ensure their nutritional value and minimize environmental impact. Such a restaurant typically avoids processed or heavily packaged foods, opting instead for whole and minimally processed ingredients. The emphasis is on providing meals that are not only delicious but also nourishing and aligned with a health-conscious approach to dining.

Dining this way you have your cake and eat it too - literally. The taste is so worthy that you may not even realize they are using cleaner ingredients.

(Prepare for this list to expand as I explore more food spots!)

 2. Three Blue Ducks at the Farm

Located in Byron Bay about two hours south of Brisbane.

ThreeBlueDucks.com

It’s true farm-to-table when you visit an actual farm that also has a restaurant on it! The Farm at Byron Bay is a working farm with pasture-fed animals, plant nursery & a sustainable market garden with tours, an onsite restaurant & a bakery. You can easily spend hours here!

The farm vegetable dish was outstanding and a highlight for me. Incredibly fresh and beautiful. It’s amazing to know that they had just been picked and are now on the plate.

The restaurant on the farm is Three Blue Ducks created by five mates who are passionate about nourishing the community with ethical, authentic, quality food and hospitality. They endeavor to source as much as possible from The Farm and then they venture further afield.

They embrace produce that is organic or spray-free and sustainably farmed to make all the meals on their menu. They get almost everything from the local area when it is in season, from southern Queensland to as far down as Port Macquarie. Their dishes are a reflection of their shared ethos for creating honest, seasonal dishes that are packed with nutrients and full of flavor. This is what we call ‘real food’.

Their space is purposefully designed to be low-key but comfortable. The undercover outdoor patio offers sweeping views from Byron’s hinterland in the west, north to Mt Warning, and east to Cape Byron Lighthouse. The terrace is home to their very own 12-meter outdoor kitchen, including a double spit, a wood-fire pizza oven, and an Argentinian grill that they love to fire up on weekends and for private events.

Their bar offers 56 taps of all Australian craft beers, wines and ciders and a selection of unique cocktails to cater to all tastes.

Every Thursday it’s mussels night! A taste of the ocean that will leave you craving more.

I have enjoyed many meals at Three Blue Ducks and have taken day trips to enjoy Byron Bay and this delicious food. On mussels night I enjoyed a mussels meal that was paired with garlic bread & v butter, olives with chilli, lemon, and bay leaf, mixed pickles, farm leaves, herb & macadamia dressing, prawn toast with kaffir lime and polenta gnocchi with pumpkin and pepita seeds pesto (gf, df, vg).

Every Thursday night for the rest of winter will be mussels night, with natural wine and a fire pit.

Overall, Three Blue Ducks in Byron Bay combines delectable cuisine, a captivating ambiance, and a commitment to sustainability, making it a must-visit destination for food lovers and those seeking a memorable dining experience in the area. I’m so excited about their cozy Thursday mussels night.
